COMPUSALE Guidelines
Preliminary guidelines drawn up by Kyle Hearn and revised by Tony White~
on May 1, 1993. These are not the final guidelines, but they will serve~
until I redraft them.~
PURPOSE: To provide an exchange for buyers and sellers, commercial or
non-commercial, to buy and sell computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
What is allowed:
Hardware: All platforms acceptable. PC, Mac, Atari, Amiga, etc.~
Software: All software acceptable EXCEPT any software that~
contains pornographic images or text. This especially means~
XXX CD-ROMs. Posting of such items for sale is NOT allowed.~
Continued posting of such items for sale will result in action~
being taken by the moderator(s).~
Also, any illegal or "pirated" software will not be allowed.~
Any person posting such software for sale will be reported to~
the appropriate law enforcement agency.~
Peripherals and accessories: All types acceptable. Use your~
own judgement.~
Commercial Vendors:
Your participation is welcome. Please follow these guidelines~
for sales and posting of advertisments:
Please do not post the same ad more than once every seven days~
unless a price or product change has occurred. This is one of~
those things that causes people to skip your posts without reading~
them and is somewhat irritating to some.~
Please Post Prices. "Call for Current Pricing" results in someone~
debating whether or not they should call you, and the result is~
often a wasted long-distance phone call and a lost sale. "Prices~
subject to change" is usually good enough. It doesn't cost anything~
to post here and you may repost your ad with changes on a more~
frequent basis (see above).
Please post a phone number, terms of sale, if tax applies to the~
sale, etc. Do you accept credit cards, checks, COD, money order,~
is shipping included? These things are important to your potential~
customers.~
What is NOT allowed:
Illegal activities of ANY kind will not be tolerated, and persons~
involving themselves in such are subject to being reported to the~
appropriate law-enforcement agencies.
Off-topic messages or threads. Everyone gets a little off-topic~
every now and again. We understand that. However, repeated off-~
topic messages or threads are annoying. If you receive a message~
informing you of an off-topic message or thread, or a message~
asking you to cease a thread, please do so without argument or~
griping.
Anyone who persists in violation of these guidelines will be~
subject to the following:~
1) Warning in the echo. If this is heeded, no further action~
should be necessary.
2) Second warning in the echo AND a netmail message. If this~
occurs, please cease all activities in violation of guidelines.~
3) Third warning in the echo, a netmail message to you and to~
your sysop. At this point, you have shown your unwillingness~
to abide by the guidelines and your choice to ignore warnings~
given previously. You will be asked to voluntarily cease your~
participation in the echo for a period of time to be determined~
by the moderator(s).
4) Fourth warning. Your access will be severed, period, at~
whatever level it becomes necessary to do so. You will not be~
welcome in the echo.
The only exception to the above process is FLAMING of a user or~
a moderator in the echo, making SLANDEROUS or LIBELOUS statements,~
or the use of profanity in the echo. This will result in immediate~
action.
NOTE: The moderator reserves all rights to make decisions regarding what~
is topical for discussion, what constitues FLAMING, SLANDER, and LIBEL in~
the echo, and what actions to take against persons abusing their privlidges~
in this echo.
Replies to a warning or appeals to a decision must be made via~
NETMAIL ONLY to Tony White at 1:124/5117. Doing so in the echo~
will be considered off-topic and will be treated as such. No~
exceptions.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Tony White
Moderator, COMPUSALE
