  1.                             COMPUSALE Guidelines
  2.  
  3. Preliminary guidelines drawn up by Kyle Hearn and revised by Tony White~
  4. on May 1, 1993.  These are not the final guidelines, but they will serve~
  5. until I redraft them.~
  6.  
  7. PURPOSE:  To provide an exchange for buyers and sellers, commercial or
  8. non-commercial, to buy and sell computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  9.  
  10. What is allowed:
  11.         Hardware: All platforms acceptable.  PC, Mac, Atari, Amiga, etc.~
  12.         
  13.         Software: All software acceptable EXCEPT any software that~ 
  14.         contains pornographic images or text.  This especially means~ 
  15.         XXX CD-ROMs.  Posting of such items for sale is NOT allowed.~ 
  16.         Continued posting of such items for sale will result in action~ 
  17.         being taken by the moderator(s).~
  18.         Also, any illegal or "pirated" software will not be allowed.~
  19.         Any person posting such software for sale will be reported to~
  20.         the appropriate law enforcement agency.~
  21.  
  22.         Peripherals and accessories: All types acceptable.  Use your~
  23.         own judgement.~
  24.  
  25. Commercial Vendors: 
  26.         Your participation is welcome. Please follow these guidelines~ 
  27.         for sales and posting of advertisments:
  28.  
  29.         Please do not post the same ad more than once every seven days~
  30.         unless a price or product change has occurred. This is one of~ 
  31.         those things that causes people to skip your posts without reading~ 
  32.         them and is somewhat irritating to some.~
  33.  
  34.         Please Post Prices. "Call for Current Pricing" results in someone~ 
  35.         debating whether or not they should call you, and the result is~ 
  36.         often a wasted long-distance phone call and a lost sale. "Prices~ 
  37.         subject to change" is usually good enough. It doesn't cost anything~ 
  38.         to post here and you may repost your ad with changes on a more~ 
  39.         frequent basis (see above).
  40.  
  41.         Please post a phone number, terms of sale, if tax applies to the~ 
  42.         sale, etc.  Do you accept credit cards, checks, COD, money order,~ 
  43.         is shipping included?  These things are important to your potential~
  44.         customers.~
  45.  
  46. What is NOT allowed:
  47.         Illegal activities of ANY kind will not be tolerated, and persons~
  48.         involving themselves in such are subject to being reported to the~
  49.         appropriate law-enforcement agencies.
  50.  
  51.         Off-topic messages or threads.  Everyone gets a little off-topic~
  52.         every now and again.  We understand that.  However, repeated off-~
  53.         topic messages or threads are annoying.  If you receive a message~
  54.         informing you of an off-topic message or thread, or a message~
  55.         asking you to cease a thread, please do so without argument or~
  56.         griping.
  57.  
  58.         Anyone who persists in violation of these guidelines will be~
  59.         subject to the following:~
  60.  
  61.         1) Warning in the echo.  If this is heeded, no further action~
  62.         should be necessary.
  63.  
  64.         2) Second warning in the echo AND a netmail message.  If this~
  65.         occurs, please cease all activities in violation of guidelines.~
  66.  
  67.         3) Third warning in the echo, a netmail message to you and to~
  68.         your sysop.  At this point, you have shown your unwillingness~
  69.         to abide by the guidelines and your choice to ignore warnings~
  70.         given previously.  You will be asked to voluntarily cease your~
  71.         participation in the echo for a period of time to be determined~
  72.         by the moderator(s).
  73.  
  74.         4) Fourth warning.  Your access will be severed, period, at~
  75.         whatever level it becomes necessary to do so.  You will not be~
  76.         welcome in the echo.
  77.  
  78.         The only exception to the above process is FLAMING of a user or~
  79.         a moderator in the echo, making SLANDEROUS or LIBELOUS statements,~
  80.         or the use of profanity in the echo.  This will result in immediate~
  81.         action.

  83. NOTE:  The moderator reserves all rights to make decisions regarding what~
  84. is topical for discussion, what constitues FLAMING, SLANDER, and LIBEL in~
  85. the echo, and what actions to take against persons abusing their privlidges~
  86. in this echo.
  87.  
  88.         Replies to a warning or appeals to a decision must be made via~
  89.         NETMAIL ONLY to Tony White at 1:124/5117.  Doing so in the echo~
  90.         will be considered off-topic and will be treated as such.  No~
  91.         exceptions.
